ARE YOU INTERESTED IN VISITING ONE OF OUR MEETINGS?
Everyone is welcome to come out and visit us at our Toastmasters Meetings! Here's a little info that will make your visit a little easier....
There was a woman who had just purchased a brand new sports car. She wanted to see how fast it could go, so she took it out to the country and let it rip. Not being too familiar with the route, she went over a hill and immediately came to a bend in the road. She miscalculated and ended up in the ditch. Luckily, there was a farmer in the field with his horse. She asked if the horse might be able to pull the car from the ditch. “No problem” said the farmer and he proceeded to tie a rope from the horse to the car. When he was all set, he walked over to the horse and put a blindfold over his head. Then he called out, “Pull George, pull”. The horse just stood there. Then he called out again, “Pull Walter, pull”. Still the horse did not move. Then the farmer yelled, “Pull Fred, pull” and with a bit of work, the horse pulled the car out of the ditch. The woman was impressed, but she had to ask, “Why did you blindfold the horse and call him by 3 different names?” “Because,” said the farmer, “if Fred thought he had to do this alone, he wouldn’t have even tried.”
Like Fred, I would not have even tried to take on the office of President if I thought I had to do this alone. However, after being a member of Towns of York Toastmasters for 3 years now, I have seen for myself how great this membership is and how everyone works together to help the club run smoothly.
We have a super executive again this year made up of some of our newer members and some of our long time members, some who have been a past President and even some who are award winners! Now how’s that for a team?! We are here to help you get the most out of your Toastmasters experience. You will never belong to another organization wherein everyone wants you to succeed as much as we do! But to achieve success, we need your help as well. We need you to bring your enthusiasm and to bring your voice. There are many roles at each meeting that will aid you in speaking as they aid us in having a fun, smoothly run evening.
Toastmasters offers a diversity of activities through our club meetings, educational programs, speech contests and even bi-annual conferences, just to name a few. These are designed to help you get the most out of your experience as well as to keep you interested. Whether your objectives are to work on professional development or just to be able to stand up and give a toast at your best friend’s retirement party, we are here to help you. Like Fred, you won’t have to do it alone.
